Stimulants sedatives: Uppers usually refer to stimulating drugs like Adderall or ritalin (methylphenidate). Cocaine would also be an upper. Downers are drugs that slow you down such as benzodiazepines (like xanax), alcohol and even marijuana for some people (some people can become agitated with marijuana).
