Croup is associated: With a severe cough that has a "bark like" character. It would not last for 2 months.

Not likely: Croup is mainly a disease of babies and small children, and has a very distinctive cough. Depending on when you stopped smoking, the lungs take many months to recover, and actually in smokers cough INCREASES with MORE sputum shortly after stopping and continues for several months sometimes as the body recovers and tries to clean the lungs out from all the accumulated crud in there. Congrats!
