What are the effects of trisomy 17 ?

See below: It's a rare genetic disorder where duplication of genetic material from chromosome 17 causes various abnormalities. The type and severity of symptoms varies depending on the size and location of the genetic material that is duplicated. Possible symptoms: •impaired intelligence •developmental delay •reduced muscle tone •various facial anomalies •short stature.

Altered formation: The presence of an extra chromosome in tissues causes an alteration or misreading of the information that codes organ formation. The defect is selectively more lethal to males prior to & early after birth. All have risk of major heart defects & other organ defects that make survival short.Some mosaics that have only a portion of tissues affected survive longer.
