Yes and no: In almost all cases, the immune system suppresses the infection to a point that it goes away, does not recur, and cannot be tansmitted. However, HPV DNA often (usually? always?) persists, with a possibility of reactivation in the future. Fortunely, the large majority of inections are harmless. Having genital HPV is normal, expected fact of life; it happens to almost everyone.
