A member asked:

What is the definition or description of: agonist?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Activator: An agonist is a chemical that binds to a receptor on a cell and triggers a response by that cell. An agonist usually mimics the action of the naturally occuring substance. An antagonist does just the opposite, blocking the action of the agonist.
