A clot that moves..: Usually a blood clot that migrates from one area of the body to another. Most commonly a clot from a leg vein to the lung . It can also pertain to a clot, or atheromatous material that moves from one segment to another, such as cholesterol material in a carotid lesion moving into the brain, causing a stroke.

Clot that travels: An embolus is a clot, or piece of a clot, that breaks off of a larger clot and travels down stream to lodge in a smaller artery. It then cuts off the blood supply to the part of the body that was supplied by that artery. For example, a clot in the heart breaks off a piece of clot which goes up to the brain causing a stroke by cutting off blood supply to one part of the brain.
