Nose culture: Screen means " look for" MRSA prior to major surgeries and during hospitalization . A culture swab is placed in the nostrils and sent to the lab to see ifc a patient has staph in the nose. Sometimes other body parts are checked. If the staoh screen or test is positive medications are prescribed if indicated.

Nasal swab: Mrsa colonized the nose, so a nasal swab will diagnose the carrier status of a patient, so is also a diagnostic test. Treatable by intranasal Mupirocin ointment, or bactroban.
