Usg and fetal growth: Utrasound is used to determine that your fetus is developing optimslky. The head circumference, abdominal circumference and length of the femur or thigh bone are checked.

Assessment of size: Ultrasound (u/s) is sometimes used to assess for growth of the fetus when either the patient is gaining too little or too much weight, if the mom's belly is measuring too large or too small, or if the mom has a condition known to affect fetal growth (such as gestational diabetes or high blood pressure) this is done by measuring several parts of the fetus and entering them in a computer program.

32-36 week scan.: A third trimester sonogram can help evaluate fetal growth if previous sonograms have established the due date with accuracy. Fetal biometry and anatomy is reviewed at each such scan. Many intestinal and urological anomalies can be thus detected, as they only show up in the third trimester.
