Filler: An injectable filler is a substance that is injected into the body to improve appearance. Fillers improve appearance by increasing volume in areas of aging, underdevelopment, or tissue loss. They can be used to fill wrinkles or folds in the face, enlarge normal areas such as lips, or fill areas of tissue loss.

Cosmetic Fillers: Any substance approved by the fda for augmenting the skin and soft tissues can be considered an injectable filler (also sometimes called a dermal filler). The original one was collagen, but today there are several types of longer lasting, safe injectable fillers. These occupy space and are used to correct wrinkles and folds or to augment the existing tissues of the face.
