Essential tremor: A tremor that occurs with arms outstretched is a postural tremor. This often is due to essential tremor, which can be treated if severe enough to warrant medication. Typically these are tremors that have been present chronically, and are considered "benign". Other causes should be evaluated by a neurologist. Any new onset tremors should be evaluated for more worrisome causes.
