Faulty sensory nerve: A numb tongue is a neurological disorder. The sensory nerves are not functioning properly. This would fall under the perview of a neurological specialist.

Advised to?: Is that what you were advised by a physician? If so, i would recommend that you see whoever your physician referred you to as he\she has personally examined you and knows the most about your specific symptoms. An oral surgeon or an ear nose and throat specialist are some other doctors that come to mind to examine and diagnose your situation. Could be medical &\or dental issues.
