LMP: By tradition, it is calculated from the first day of the menstrual period which led to the pregnancy.

Yes It Is: Since it is difficult to know exactly when fertilization occurs in vivo we estimate it based on calculation of the estimated due date (and by proxy gestational age). This is calculated by adding 280 days to the first day of the last menses the accuracy of which depends on recall by the mother, assumes regular 28 day cycles with conception at day 14 (ovulation).
