Get an X-ray & exam : If your finger is swollen and painful following a traumatic event that you think may have broken it...See your hand surgeon for an exam and x-rays. Early treatment is essential to good outcomes. In the meantime keep it elevated, iced and in a splint for comfort until you can get evaluated.
