Vasculitis: While a rare occurrence if a patient has vasculitis - an inflammation of the blood vessels, it could potentially affect the adrenal glands causing adrenal insufficiency.

Ask: Your physician may be measuring how much atrophy the adrenals underwent during your course of steroids for your connective tissue disease. Or he/she may have reason to suspect idiopathic or some other cause of adrenal insufficiency. You have both a right and a duty to get full information about your health -- and i'm glad your ctd was diagnosed and treated. Wishing you luck.
