Vasculitis: While a rare occurrence if a patient has vasculitis - an inflammation of the blood vessels, it could potentially affect the adrenal glands causing adrenal insufficiency.

Ask: Your physician may be measuring how much atrophy the adrenals underwent during your course of steroids for your connective tissue disease. Or he/she may have reason to suspect idiopathic or some other cause of adrenal insufficiency.
