Herpes: Herpesvirus can cause sores in the nose as well as the mouth. Also can be caused scratching in the area as well. Other viruses and bacteria can be causes of sores. Finally diseases such as crohn's disease can also cause sores in any mucosalized area.

Trauma or disease: Injury or illness can cause nasal ulceration. Lupus, an autoimmune disorder can create these lesions. If it doesn't resolve in 2 weeks, or if it is painless, see your physician.
