A member asked:

Does hydrocodine have the same kind of opiates/opiodes as tylenol (acetaminophen) 3 has in it or they all different?

Its different: The opium plant naturally contains 3 different chemicals that are opiates - morphine, Codeine and thebaine. Tylenol (acetaminophen) 3 has Codeine 32 mg in it. Hydrocodone and oxycodone are semi-synthetic opiates, that are more potent than Codeine and have fewer side effects. Same with hydromorphone and oxymorphone. Fully synthetic opioids, like methadone, fentanyl, Demerol - are chemically different.

Different: Codeine is metabolized to morphine and hydrocodone is metabolized to dilaudid, which is more potent.
