Is a very low vitamin d level a reason for hair thinning in a 57 yr. old female who has just become post-menopausal?

No.: Vitamin d is a hormone, not a vitamin. I recommend vitamin d3 at 2000 iu per day. But hair loss is less an issue, than hormonal changes. Current consensus suggest that women in menopause obtain cardiac benefits from being on estrogen till about sixty unless you have contraindications. Low estrogen can be the most important factor.
