Yes: To 5 big risk factors for heart attack are hypertension, elevated cholesterol, family history, cigarettes, and diabetes. Obesity patients are prone to have hypertension, elevated cholesterol, and diabetes all of which lead to and increased risk of heart attack.

Absolutely: Obesity increases the level of stress hormones in the body which causes increased inflammation which is what exacerbates atherosclerosis which causes heart attacks. Also, obesity puts more strain on the heart because more blood and blood vessels are needed to feed the fat.
