A member asked:

How can you prepare yourself for colonoscopy?

It varies: In general you should take a liquid diet the day prior to your procedure. You should also take one of several bowel preparation solutions. These are all available by prescription. You shouldn't eat the morning of the procedure. It is usually ok to take your regular prescriptions except for blood thinners. Your doctor may have you hold these for several days prior. You should be given instructions.

Stay hydrated: Stay hydrated and follow the instructions given to you by your doctor. Failing to drink all of the prep solution will lead to low quality colonoscopy.

Pleasant experiencE: You will be sedated for the scope itself. The bowel prep, on the other hand, is unpleasant to say the least...But worth it for the life saving benefit.
