How is my body affected by a low platelet count?

Depends: Platelets are small cells that help your blood clot when it's supposed to. So, a low platelet count could cause you to bleed or bruise easily, or even spontaneously. But it depends on just how low the count is, and why it's low to begin with.

Typically: Bruising easily, a pinpoint (petechial) rash can occur, and depending on severity - you can develop spontaneous bleeding.
