How do i treat microcytosis?

Fe supplements: If the microcytosis is due to low iron, then increased dietary intake is part of the answer. The most absorbed form of iron is in red meat (but that has its own health problems). Unfortunately, plant-based iron is not as well absorbed in humans as in meat sources. Thus, iron tablets may be necessary (very little is absorbed). If severe or anemic, a blood transfusion or IV iron may be necessary.

See below: Agree with Dr. B. Iron deficiency is the usual cause of microytosis and can be treated with iron supplements. Thalassemia minor also causes microcytosis and the small cell size does not require treatment and it not treatable.
