How does alcohol affect your skin?

Can trigger rosacea: Excessive alcohol intake can cause the skin to look sallow and less healthy. Chronic alcohol use can prematurely age the skin. It can also exacerbate underlying skin problems. Rosacea is a skin condition in which flushing and redness can be triggered by alcohol.

Depends: Social alcohol use has little or no effect on skin in most people. Heavy alcohol use may have a drying effect, increasing chances of dry skin problems like eczema. Most effects of alcohol in heavy drinkers are indirect, and related to poor personal hygiene (scabies etc). Very heavy drinkers lie in one position for long periods of time, causing pressure damage. Vitamin deficiencies may be present.
