It could.: Alcohol withdrawal could be deadly. Delirium tremens (dts) can start 3 days after your last drink, last up to 7-10 days. It's not guaranteed that you'll get dts after stopping alcohol cold turkey, but the risk is high enough that you should definitely seek professional help before you do. In some select cases, you can work with your doctor to do a detox outpatient regimen. Good luck!

It can: Delirium tremens (the shaking delirium) usually comes after months or years of very heavy drinking, usually in the range of at least a pint of 80 proof liquor daily or its equivalent (12 beers, 1/2 gallon wine). If you get severe tremor "shakes" when you stop drinking, need to drink in the morning to stop the shakes, or drink in the middle of the night to stay asleep, you are at risk. Get help!
