Could try treating: You could perform "an empiric trial", that is try to treat with antifungal cream, locally, the areas in question, and see if the hair returns. It won't be immediate, you should be patient after treatment and wait possibly a month or more. It is more likely to be fungus if the lost areas are coin-sized or splotchy. If you have lost all of your beard here and there could be some hormonal issue.
