Abdominal Hernia: A hernia is a hole in the abdominal wall through which the lining of the abdominal cavity protrudes, creating a sac. Hernias are common in the groin, belly button, upper-midline, or associated w/scars. Ventral hernias specifically refer to those hernias along the anterior surface, or "front" of the abdominal wall.

Ventral Hernia: This is a hole, or series of holes, in the front of the abdominal wall through which abdominal contents such as fat and intestines can pass through, and stretch out the skin. This appears as a lump under the skin that can change in size, potentially cause discomfort, or trap and block intestines. They are generally caused by genetics, trauma, or abdominal operations.
