Trazodone/Desyrel: Trazodone is used for insomnia and, in higher doses, depression. It is generally well-tolerated, although high doses can be quite sedating and prolonged use in elderly patients can lead to toxicity. Sedation is due to antihistamine activity. It is generally very safe in overdose. Rarely, men may develop priapism, a persistent erection that can be permanently scarring if not quickly treated.
