Outside of normal: Liver functions test can be measured as alt (alanine aminotransferase - sgpt), ast (aspartate aminotransferase - sgot), alkaline phosphatase, bilirubin, albumin, prothrombin time (pt/inr). Each labs will have a normal value (2 standard deviation from mean). If labs are outside these values, it can mean that liver is not functioning properly although 5% of normal people will fall outside of "normal.

Liver tests not norm: Abnormal liver tests are simply blood tests that show you how your liver is working, including, albumin, sgot, gpt, bilirubin and a few more, if they are high, you need to see you doctor, there are many reasons for abnormal liver tests.
