Blood vessel: Arteries are a type of blood vessels. We can divide blood vessels into 2 categories. Arteries are high pressure vessels which deliver (red) oxygen + blood out into the body. Veins on the other hand or low pressure vessels which return (dark) oxygent - blood from the body back to the heart.

Direction of flow:: Arteries are defined as blood vessels which carry blood away from the heart (to either the body or lungs). Arteries: higher pressure, thicker walls, stretch (pulse) with each heart contraction & deliver blood to the arterioles which control the flow to individual capillaries. Veins are blood vessels which carry blood from capillaries back to the heart (body to right heart; lungs to left heart).

Blood vessel: It is the type of blood vessel that takes oxygenated blood after it has passed thru the lungs from the heart to the rest of the body. The other type of blood vessel is a vein which takes blood from the body that has already delivered the oxygen and needs to go back to the lungs. The heart is the pump that makes all this happen.
