Contact hospital adm: Call the local hospital administration. They will tell you the nearest trauma center in your community. In some cases the designation of trauma center is not permanent. Therefore, it is important to get current information about your hospital and to ask what level the trauma center is.

Half of the 500+ trauma centers in the US are verified by the American College of Surgeons, and they are listed at http://www.facs.org/trauma/verified.html/ The rest are designated by their state or sometimes county. Visit your state department of health or EMS department website to find if they are listed.

Call The Hospital: There are various levels of trauma centers. The er is only part of the trauma team. The main part of the trauma team are the surgeons who take care of the trauma patient. A level one trauma center will have surgeons and anesthesiologists in house 24 hours a day to take care of these patients. The er is primarily a stabilizing and triage center for trauma patients before they are moved on for defi.
