No: There are no peer reviewed, evidence based studies supporting homeopathic remedies for tourette's syndrome. See dr. Barrett's excellent article on homeopathy at > http://www.Quackwatch.Org/search/webglimpse.Cgi?Id=1&query=homeopathy <.

However, medication is not necessarily the only alternative. There are research-based behavioral interventions that can be quite effective. Check out the National Tourette Society webpage.

No: Homeopathic treatments have no fda approval, which means they have not been proven to be either safe or effective for treatment of any disease or condition.

DEPENDS IF BELIEVE: Homeopathy is a philosophy of healing. Some physicians believe in it. Most are doubtful. If you find this appealing, perhaps try it immediately, and if no sign of clear help in labs, consider other options. Tourette's can have many infection causes and other causes.

One interesting finding is that in families with a heavy occurrence of Tourette's Disorder is that males often are more likely to have Tourette's and females often have OCD. ADHD is quite common with Tourette's.

How is tourette's inherited?

Dr. Jeff Jacobs
Child Psychiatry 22 years experience
Multifactorial: Although clearly a genetic disorder, the mode of inheritence for tourette's is complex, involving multiple defective genes, and perhaps even an interplay of genetic and environmental factors. There is also clearly a genetic association between the triad of tourette's, ocd, and adhd, and i generally screen patients i diagnose with tourette's for concurrent adhd and/or ocd.
