A member asked:

Is there good rehabilitation for kids with pvl to help them with motor coordination?

Good peds OT and PT: Kids with pvl are at greater risk for cerebral palsy among other neuromuscular disorders. There is excellent rehab for kids with pvl, and most of them involve repetitive movement and relearning how to make normal movements, recruiting more brain to enable the movement to happen. Good pt and ot will help with that, and most major centers have them. The local support groups will know the good names.

Often : Here's my reason for advocating for early internvention, which should be free to infants with pvl: while ei physical and occupational therapists may not be able to normalize muscle tone, they help the infant and parents learn the most functional positions for baby to develop ways to move and other skills. They also monitor progress and know if there is a need for further medical interventions.

Comprehensive rehab: The best approach would be an evaluation at a pediatric rehabilitation program, which would include input from a rehabilitation medicine M.D. and therapists in physical, occupational and speech and language therapy.
