Clinical diagnosis: Meconium aspiration syndrome is a diagnosis made upon clinical grounds. Factors that contribute to the diagnosis may include history and examination of the patient, visualization of meconium at delivery, radiographic data such as chest xrays and echocardiograms, laboratory data, and sometimes the exclusion of alternative disease states.
