While dos and mds are legal equivalents in the United States the degrees are not interchangeable, thus a do cannot use md at the end of his name. This has been a traditional sticking point with some dos, which i think is pretty silly, but some have gone so far as to buy paper mds from diploma mills to pass on as real.
