Avoid fats: Rule of thumb: avoid fats and eat small portions often in the hospital setting, patients are typically kept "npo" (nothing by mouth) and given plenty of IV fluids and pain management to allow the pancreas to rest. Symptoms typically resolve within a few days for uncomplicated, acute pancreatitis.
