1994: The first midcab (single vessel bypass thru a 3 inch incision between the ribs on left side while the heart still beats was by dr coulson in 1994. The first use of heart port system which lets you stop the heart with the heart lung machine was by drs sterman and stevens in 1995. This system allowed you to do more than one bypass and also do mitral valve surgery.
