Old people: The conducting system (like electricle wiring) of the heart tends to wear out as you get older so that it is the older patients who most commonly have bradycardia severe enough to cause problems. Slow pulse can be seen in younger patients such as from lyme disease. Less commonly, heart attacks can be the cause. Healthy athletes can get a slow pulse but they are fine, no suffering.
