Varies: Pericardiocentesis is a technique where a sample of pericardial fluid is removed from the sack around the heart. The fluid can be abnormal if its an infection with bacteria or fungi . Cultures would be performed to asses this. If the examination of the cells are abnormal cancer may be the cause. Other causes of autoimmune diseases can be found as well.
