Speed up heart: If your heart is beating too slow, wires are placed into the heart and hooked to a battery which sends an electrical impulse to the heart making it contract at a faster rate.

Pacemaker: When the heart rate slows down to a certain level the the pacer senses this then puts out an electrical impulse to cause the heart to contract.
