Beta and alpha: Dobutamine chemically has functional hydroxyl groups attached to benzene rings connected via an imine bridge. What is important functionally is its ability to stimulate beta receptors. Dobutamine stimulates beta 1 >>beat 2> Alpha 1. The causes the heart to work harder and increase cardiac output, at the expense of increasing the heart's oxygeb consumption. Dobutamine also causes vasodilation.
