Likely light flow: If the blood from the period is coming out slowly then the blood can turn brown and be thick. It sounds like this period so far is different than usual. You can see what happens in the next few days - if it becomes more normal or not. If the bleeding stays much lighter than usual consider taking a pregnancy test.
