A member asked:

Is cold air bad for chronic bronchitis? i have chronic bronchitis and wonder if breathing cold air is bad. i feel a little sting when i go outside in the winter, but will it make my condition worse?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

It's both cold ; dry: Dry air is more the problem, and colder air in the winter is also drier. Use of scarves or coats that cover the chin and mouth, or hoods, may be helpful. Treating the cause of the bronchitis, particularly smoking cessation if you are a smoker, is critical. It will not generally make the bronchitis progress more, but can lead to more upper respiratory infections.
