The : The fact that you are able to move it a bit suggests that is likely to be a ganglion cyst on the tendon although infection is a possibility. It just happens to be in a bad spot. You should check with your doctor anyway since you mention numbness in the wrist and hand. The small knot is not causing this, but the altered hand position may be compromising the carpal tunnel too. Ganglion cysts are benign cysts that sometimes form in tendon sheaths usually from repetitive motions. I wouldn't put up with it.

You : You should certainly get this checked out by a physician. It is painful and interferes with your work, so you should not put up with it. It is not likely to be a tumor because it got as big as it has in only a month, but it could easily be an infection and may need surgical drainage, antibiotics, or other therapy. Get it evaluated and treated.
