I see a nephrologist for "iga nephropathy" but have been having clots in my urine. should i see a urologist? i have had 6-7 episodes of hematuria in the past 10 months. the first couple i thought were utis and went away on their own within 4 hours. epi

Recommend : Recommend letting your nephrologist know your specific concerns about the blood clots. I would ask her to educate you about the mechanism that is causing this. It is likely that you will not need to see a urologist if the kidney is the source.

Many : Many things can cause hematuira. The nephropathy or a UTI could cause it. However, it may also be something else such as a kidney stone (unlikely if no pain) or possibly bladder cancer. The best thing to do would be to address your concerns with your nephrologist and specifically ask if a referral to a urologist is prudent.

IgA neph: IgA nephropathy features visible bleeding into urine, bleeding can come from other sources, too. Having a renal ultrasound and having a bladder evaluation is reasonable.
