A member asked:

What if my child doesn't like talking very much, he is 5, does he have a language problem?

Possibly: Normal language in a 5 yr old has a good vocabulary, speaks words that are clearly understood by strangers & the arrangement of those words follow the expected pattern.( yoda in star wars has strange word sequence). To enjoy talking, a child needs the skill & self confidence within the group involved. Public schools have programs to asses kids for s&l needs & can separste the s&l issue from others.

Possibly: Most likely he has a socialization issue, like social anxiety, or has some other behavioral or psychological issue that is being expressed by the choice to 'not like talking very much'. He could have a language problem that he perceives and so he tries to avoid letting others be aware of it.
