You : You need to make an appointment with a local, trusted dentist who can examine you, determine what treatment is best for you, and quote you a fee. It cannot be determined what treatment you need over the internet.

Sounds : Sounds like there may be quite a bit of preliminary work needed even before considering caps. Can't quote in this forum, but i know you need to get an evaluation asap.

You : You cannot construct a building if the foundation is not sound. The gums and bone are the foundation for the teeth. Spending large sums of money on crowns when you have ongoing gum disease and bone loss is like painting a house that is undermined by termites. Failure to address the gum problems will lead to the teeth loosing and falling out. You should seek an evaluation by a competent general dentist and address your problems in a logical and meaningful manner.

You : You wouldn't build a new house on land that was like a swamp and the same applies to restoring your mouth with caps (crowns). It's important to get a complete examination/assessment with x-rays to determine the full extent of your problem and to treat your gums and bones first to make them healthy before permanent caps (crowns) are made. Often the dentist can make you temporary crowns first so that your appearance improves immediately while the gum work (periodontal treatment) is performed. Cost can only be determined after the full extent of the problems in your mouth are evaluated.

Capping : Capping or placing crowns on your teeth has nothing to do with, nor can it solve your bone and gum problems. It's like building a new house on quicksand. You would just be throwing away your money and no ethical dentist would do that anyway. What you need is a thorough examination, evaulation and consultation. Your problems may be worse, or better than you think. Don't be discouraged! see a dentist and take one thing at a time. Start with the consultation to discuss your options.

See specialists: You must first stabilize the condition of the mouth and achieve excellent health before any malor treatment is done. First see a prosthodontist --they specialize in complex mouth conditions-- for complete evaluation and treatment options. They will likely refer you to the periodontist for evaluation and treatment of the gum and bone tissues. If you can be helped, they ere the best. Maybe implants.

Yes if Teeth Stable: Regardless of the amount of bone loss, if the gum disease is stabilized and your teeth are not too loose, crowns can be done. If some teeth are hopeless, either implants or bridges may be a choice after having them taken out. Start by seeing a general dentist who can guide you and develop a full treatment plan. Crowns alone range from around $900-1300 each in Tucson, AZ, without insurance help.
