Hello. : Hello. I can’t diagnose the reason for your son’s bright lime green poop. However any thing which causes the feces to transit his system too quickly could cause it to turn green. Bile is yellowish green and it digests fat. As the bile goes through the gut, it turns from green to brown from enzyme action. If it goes through the colon too quickly, there isn’t time for that to occur and the feces are green. Additionally, the fast transit time prevents fluids from being properly reabsorbed through the colon and so the feces is usually loose or liquid as well. Here is a list of possible causes for green feces to peruse: malabsorption, overgrowth of the wrong types of bacteria in the gut (sometimes caused by antibiotics), medication side effects, celiac disease crohn’s disease and iron supplements. Of course anything with green food coloring can be a cause. This is just a small sampling of possible causes. Good luck with this. Take care.
