Hello. : Hello. In the United States the wrong blood type is given to a patient approximately once in every 14, 000 transfusions. Type and cross matches are done before transfusions to assure there aren’t major blood incompatibilities. Reactions from transfusion can occur fairly quickly or can be delayed for a few weeks. A transfusion reaction could be mild or in some cases it could even lead to death.

Depends : It depends on the degree and type of incompatibility. Reactions range from nothing to death.
