Hello. : Hello. The labia and clitoral hood (the layer of tissue overlying the clitoris) can become hypertrophied (enlarged) for a number of reasons: topical hormones applied to the labia/ clitoris; systemic female hormones; damage from giving birth; chronic skin inflammation of that area; stretching /pulling due to sexual intercourse or masturbation and genetics are some possible causes. I recommend that you be evaluated by your doctor to see if the cause can be determined. No, the excess hanging tissue of the clitoris or the surrounding tissue does ot happen to every woman. Some women opt to have a clitoral hood reduction. They may feel more positive about the appearance of their clitoris and labia if this is done. Also, it there is excess tissue surrounding the clitoris it could decrease sexual arousal . I hope this information is helpful.
