In : In most cases depression is treated with antidepressant medications, as dr fowler correctly pointed out. However, there are situations when other medications, including stimulants such as Adderall (dextroamphetamine and racemic amphetamine) could be added to the medication regimen. This strategy is called "augmentation" and is primarily used for treatment-resistant depression. Stimulants can also be used to successfully treat symptoms of depression, sleepiness and fatigue in patients with cancer, medically ill or terminally ill patients. One other medication that has such stimulant properties and is often used to treat these symptoms is modafinil.

There : There are different medications for depression treatment, most popular of which has been already mentioned above. The bottom line of my comment for you would be this; we take into consideration the short and long term risks-side effects of medications (recommended and alternatives) besides effectiveness and a patient's clinical profile when considering which medication to use. There are also medication guidelines that help in our decision making.

Agree: Addearall can be part of a comprehensive plan to take care of sleepiness but as a single agent not good for depression. I can help you work through it but it takes time. Modafanil is likely a better depression augment than adderall (dextroamphetamine and racemic amphetamine). Likewise would need to know your meds, physical problems etc. The adderrall would not have to be removed but need to be sleeping, awake, quite mind.
