Can you take benadryl (diphenhydramine) before a blood tests for ige antibodies to foods? my son has a test coming up and i wasn't sure if benadryl (diphenhydramine) would affect the results

I : I believe that most allergists would recommend not taking Benadryl (diphenhydramine) for about three days prior to allergy testing to avoid blunting the response. Take care.

Avoid drug: The drug can affect some parts of allergy tests and so should be avoided.

Antihistamines will NOT affect the result of serum specific IgE blood tests. There is no reason to avoid the Benadryl. Antihistamines will affect skin testing and would need to be avoided.
